These drawings are amazing! I was speechless when first clicked the link to your blog to see all of these. What art school did you go to by the way and is formal art training necessary to have a decent job in animation, like character designing and storyboarding? I'm already contemplating about all the possible art schools and animation schools I could go to, even though I'm still not out of high school yet.
Thank you so much, Roberto, RooniMan and Scrawnypumpkinseed!
Roberto-- I went to CalArts in Valencia, California and studied character animation. The main thing is to learn all of the basic drawing skills that John K. talks about on his blog, which is a great resource. What's great about CalArts is that you would be surrounded by some amazing talent from all over the world, and you could learn from them and share ideas. I've also heard good things about the Ringling school of art in Florida and the Sheridan school in Canada which is where Peter Emslie teaches. Also, the Animation Guild in Burbank, Ca. offers animation-related classes to both students and professionals.
One other thing: learn as much digital software as you can. I'm talking about Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Toon Boom, Maya, etc. Knowing them will increase your employment opportunities.

Although these are the rough sketches, I wish I could draw like this, looks great!
Your cartooning skills are completely out of this world!! I have to agree with Tony---while all your stuff is amazing, my fav is also the dog.
Thank you so much, Richard!

I love the great hierarchy of skill in these. Well done.
Wow, these are really great! The bottom dog looks really Hanna-Barbera-ish.
My favorite is the top dog but all of these are great cartoons!

Lively art!
Thanks, Howard!
The girl in the middle photo. Which cartoon is that?
She's just a random design I came up with.
